As I walked through the garden I felt a brush against my arm and looked down to see a beautiful orange and black bug on my forearm. It was an adult Milkweed bug.
As I looked down at her I mused on this amazing creatures existence and the incredible richness and diversity of life on this planet. My mind wandered and I began to see how this tiny being had always existed as a potentiality, hidden but still there in spirit. She was breathed into life, manifested spirit in the form of a Milkweed bug. Her tiny internal organs all structured as they should be as an astonishing feat of evolution that serve her perfectly and her forebears going back millions of generations. Each movement of her caused me to muse further on the intricacy of her tiny limbs animating this glorious creature.
My sense of wonder rose even more as I considered her role in the eco-system and the rich and vibrant world she lives in. The Milkweed plant she is associated with is a splendour in itself. Beneficial to so many other creatures, an essential member of it’s eco-system.
The silence surrounding me as the bug sat on my skin in the sun was contemplative and I meditated on the wonder of the Universe and celebrated my opportunity to partake for a brief time on this planet the power of creation flowing through me and the Milkweed bug as our existence merged into one.
Blending into each other I became intensely aware that I too was but a manifestation of spirit, another being among billions thriving in the fertile lushness of creation. Billions of years had passed until this incredible moment had presented itself in the form of the company of the Milkweed bug.
I closed my eyes and could sense from her the power of volcanoes pouring forth new lands for other life to build upon, the constant renewal, the ebb and flow of the changing landscapes.
My heart could sense the crashing power of water as waves smothered the shores rocks in foam flecked waves. Beneath those waves exists a myriad of lifeforms, all sacred manifestations of the spectacular power of the spirit force imbued in Nature.
My heart could sense herds of Bison roaming across the plains of North America, the Steppes of Eurasia and the mighty forests of Europe and could sense the beating wings of migratory birds as they flew almost ceaselessly across vast oceans and continents of this bountiful planet.
I felt humble as a human being by the experience that taught without words that the force that gave us breath also gave us the life giving sun, celestial marvels and the intricacy of microscopic life.
A Universe pregnant with vibrancy, diversity and vividness pouring forth a living wealth our hearts need to embrace as one.
