I never tire of the lessons Nature gives to me even though I’ve had the same lessons for many years they are still welcome in my heart. These lessons in silence tell me there is an unspoken connection that goes beyond our traditionally known 5 senses, something deeper, something mysterious yet familiar to the attentive. There is a veil, a curtain drawn that slowly lifts as awareness increases and we look beyond the superficiality of this culture of ego.
There lies the force of Nature, the creative energy of the Universe that pervades all creation.
It is the creator of worlds and the destroyer of worlds.
It is the myriad of bird calls, the breaching whales, meteorite showers and the birth of babies of all species including our own.
It is the incredible violence of volcanic eruptions and the leopard or Hunting Dogs taking down their prey.
It is also the gentleness of a butterflies wings and the small seedling breaking through the earth.
It is forever creating and forever destroying.
We too contain that spark of energy and return it to the Universe when we die and disperse our material remains as we slowly migrate into another form.
The sacred dance of Nature that never ends.
This Spirit of creation lies in the heart of the wild which the culture of the ego domesticates and controls never letting the freedom of the wild take away from this cultures love of itself and itself only. Even tiny so-called weeds get flooded with poisons. Nature became a resource to be plundered never something that gives us life. The earth becomes iron ore tonnage and trees become lumber measured in board feet. Their existence made solely material, the living turned into the dead.
To look with pantheistic eyes and hearts can make one a misfit or a heretic within the narrow streets of societal confines and conditioning.
I am happy to be called either by this culture of callousness.
I live every day surrounded by the miracles of Nature. The profusion of shapes and colours of the flora and fauna are gestures of the stunning richness and potent power of evolution. They are the manifestations of the Spirit, the animating force at work.
When we see the wild beauty of a spiders intricately woven web, the superb colouring of our feathered kin, the delicate wild beauty of a snowflake and the warming beauty of a meadow of wild flowers we are partaking in the dazzling dance of divinity that pervades the Universe and informs all it touches with open hearts.
Go beyond the 5 senses we were taught and observe the miraculous metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly and contemplate the billions of years of evolution it took for this to happen in your lifetime and in front of you.
The Spirit of the wild is there.
It invites you to listen, feel and to partake in the glorious lessons of union with Nature, not with the ego but with your deepest inner most connection with the Spirit within and without.
Never living far from the ocean I often visit and soak in the atmosphere smelling the air, hearing the waves and watching the ever changing patterns and colours as they evolve from a deep blue hue toward the horizon to a sparkling turquoise nearer the shore and finally dissipates into white foam as the ocean kisses the patient sand with a riotous roar. The Cormorants dive for their nutritious fare and the insects about me commune in intimacy with the seaside flora in the divine dance of life. An Egret stalks slowly with intent through the tall grass beyond the sand ever vigilant of the world about it.
I hear in my heart the song of the Universe as I bear witness to the sights, sounds and sensations of nature. I am absorbed by the sacred unfurling of existence that has saturated my heart. What surrounds me are the holy manifestations of the Spirit of the Universe, creation pervaded by the Great Mystery. Words do not exist to describe the wonder, beauty and glory of the Universe and the power of creation. Eternity cocoons my soul when it bears witness to the glorious sublimity of Nature. The power of the seed to push forth from the ground and reach for the heavens, the community of all beings to live their lives, the cleansing winds and rains, and the intricate dance of life is the Spirit of the Universe immanent in all creation.
In the embracing sun I feel thee upon my skin.
Upon the wailing wind I hear thee greet my attentive ears.
In thy wholesome gifts of succulent sustenance I taste thy presence.
With the gentle fragrant bouquet I greet thee in flowers and soil after rain.
I witness thee in the oceans, forests, mountains and in the nations of all beings. They are my kin, the spoken and unspoken voice of divinity.
Spirit of the Universe that dwells in all existence thou give to me my life and I proffer to thee my reverence, service and devotion.
