Ten Beating Hearts

I relocated 9 Gulf Fritillary caterpillars today that had eaten most of the Passion Vine they were on and were facing starvation. I drove them to a nearby location that I knew had what they needed, as the area where they were was one of the few areas left after the landscape had been pillaged by humanity’s insatiable appetite for land. I thought as I drove there that there were ten beating hearts in the car, not counting any unseen creatures hidden, that were filled with the vitality of the Universe.

Ten beating hearts with ancestry reaching back billions of years. It is an euphoric and inspiring feeling to realize your body is but a manifested breath of the spirit energy that flows throughout the cosmos. To know that all about you are connected to you, connections that the culture of civilization tries to extinguish everyday.

This deep denial that permeates this culture is all crushing and powerful but can’t be extinguished in everyone. There will always be the Nature mystics who sense and feel the connection of all being and who will never be silenced by the cruel tyranny of human supremacists.

Nature is where our reality lies, not in the decaying edifice of this cultures divorced illusions of grandeur. Our reality lies in the richness and life giving affirmations of earth, oceans and winds, the soil, water and air. Our sanity lies here and in the planets and stars. This is what holds us stable as living breathing human animals in an unstable society.

People enchanted and mesmerized by this culture are like drunken sailors on a fully seaworthy ship jumping into the cold frozen depths of human exceptionalism believing progress lies at the bottom of the sea where we shall find a utopia that can’t, and never will exist. All that exists is a fatalistic, bleak and gloomy future of morbid darkness and a miserable silence filled with a tragic and lonely despair.

Our real paradise lives in connection to the Universe, in connection and kinship with the nations of all beings.

Our reality is aligned with the wild.

The wild is where our hearts were born and dwelt for most of our species time on earth. It’s where every fibre of our being and spirit grew from, with stories of kinship with the land and water and the wild is where we return when we pass away.

We need new stories that focus on the wild world and not on humanity. The wild world is a world where the natural cycles of destruction and creation that sustain us, nurture us and feed our body and spirit are. We need to embrace this reality with receptiveness, enchantment and engagement.

To be born into this richness is to be living in reality and a source of reverence. There is a divinity flowing throughout the flowering cosmos. We are surrounded and imbued with divinity, a cascading force of wonder, beauty and sacred sublimity. It’s our inheritance being taken away, a tragedy right before us, smothering the wild within and around us by a greedy, indifferent and callous culture.

The ten beating hearts show us the wild connection is always there no matter how deeply buried and can never be broken.
